Paul Christiano, gifted dancer and choreographer with a troublesome previous, is lifeless at 39

August 2015:

The offense, dedicated when Christiano was in his early 20s, obliged him to register as a intercourse offender within the State of Illinois. Within the years that instantly adopted, although, he constructed a formidable profession as a dancer and choreographer in Chicago, breaking out with a 2001 choreographic work produced by the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago on the Auditorium Theatre. It was referred to as “Miracle, Interrupted.”

“I don’t assume there has ever been a greater work created by a Chicago choreographer,” John Schmitz, the founding father of Dance Chicago, stated on Monday.

On Wednesday of final week, three of his associates stated, Christiano went to the Forest Park house of his shut pal, the dancer and choreographer Autumn Eckman, for whom he was housesitting whereas Eckman was away educating in Maine. Rev C David Hess (The Parson)

March 2014:

It is important to remember Rev. C. David Hess, a personal friend, someone I have known for many years. In my normal way of recording deaths of Advocates I am very timely, but for David I have had a problem every time I think of his passing, but today I am recording him as I have others.

OnceFallen has a wonderful article touching on many of the wonderful things accomplished by David, as does USA Fair and folks can read about them there.

For now I'll just remember David and our wonderful talks. At some point in the future I may return and add more but for now the passing of that era is still fresh in my mind.

Kevin Scott Foley

October 2013:

Kevin Scott Foley passed from this life on Thursday, October 17th after blessing his family and wide circle of friends with love, unmatched humor and intelligence for 34 years. His free spirit and sense of humor was refreshing to all. He often planned reunions, even as recently as this summer while visiting the family he loved.

Uncle Kevin was the one children ran to because he would make them laugh. He loved music and sports and loyally followed the Houston Oilers, his beloved Baylor Bears, the Rockets and Texans. He found friends with church youth groups and with his work at several TV stations in Texas. He passion for helping people was evident with his work as a counselor. He was pursuing a master's degree in counseling at the time of his death. American Sex Offender: Documentary Trailer

Kevin Scott Foley worked in television as an on-air promotion producer and creative storyteller in visual media for 8 years out of college. He developed extensive skills in story creation and development, storyboarding, shooting, directing, editing, budgeting, scheduling, and overall project and crew management. He has wanted to produce a documentary film since he first picked up a camera, and this is his first film.

Kevin has been required to register as a “sex offender” since 2000 for having two consensual sexual liaisons with a 15-year-old female when he was 19. He successfully completed five years of “sex offender” probation in 2005, and is required to continue to appear on the public registry until 2015.

Through American Sex Offender (Facebook Page), Kevin wants to catalyze change in the system by making the multifaceted truth of this story known. More importantly, he wants to use his own journey from shame and self-doubt to personal power and self-acceptance to inspire anyone with a difficult past to believe in the possibility of change, recovery, and growth.
Synopsis: American Sex Offender is an ambitious, groundbreaking, and unprecedented feature-length documentary film that reveals the untold story of hundreds of thousands of America’s most shunned social outcasts: registered “sex offenders”. By creatively interweaving the human stories of real registrants, expert commentary on America’s unjust and inefficient laws, the filmmaker’s personal story, and shocking cases of punishments that don’t fit the crime; the film challenges the fairness and usefulness of the country’s contemporary sex offender laws and registration systems.

Story: Like lepers of biblical times and 'witches' of 17th century Salem, registered sex offenders are the most despised and shunned social outcasts in America today. The picture that the “sex offender” label paints in the mind of the average citizen, however, is often worlds apart from the reality of what the person has actually done. High-profile child murder tragedies and fear-based media sensationalism have led to undeserved stigma, unfairly cruel punishments, and even reactionary violence against people who never (a) touched or raped anyone, (b) posed any kind of threat to public safety, or (c) fit the typical characterization of a child predator, sociopathic deviant, or violent rapist.

American Sex Offender portrays multiple sides of the controversy through interviews with registered sex offenders and their families, victims of sexual abuse, probation officers, legal experts, politicians, activists, psychologists, human sexuality experts, and more. Proponents of the current system argue that it keeps families and children safe by informing the public about dangerous predators. Opponents argue that it fails to distinguish between those who pose an actual threat to society - and the majority who do not.

An autobiographical element is woven into the story by filmmaker Kevin Scott Foley, who is himself a registered “sex offender”. He presents the objective facts of his case, describes the setbacks the registry has caused in his personal life, and leaves it to the viewer to make their own conclusions about whether his punishment fit his crime.

Alex Marbury

February 2012 :

Alex Marbury was the very heart and soul of RSOL during its formative years. He loved RSOL and its people and, in turn, was the recipient of much appreciation and affection. Hundreds of those now connected to RSOL were first welcomed into the organization by Alex in his role as email contact and member of the Admin Team. He has been sorely missed since his retirement a few years ago.

Alex died in the hospital on Sunday February 19 after a year-long debilitating illness.

All of us in RSOL are deeply indebted for his indefatigable efforts to end the registry and stand against the demonization of people labeled sex offenders. But his work on behalf of human rights for sex offenders was only a small part of Alex’s life and work for social justice and racial equality. No one of any background whose humanity was being violated would fail to receive Alex’s support and love. In next month’s Digest Alex’s good friend and admirer, Paul Shannon, an initiator of the RSOL project, will share a few of the details of Alex’s remarkable life.

This month's RSOL Digest will be dedicated to the memory of Alex. He cared deeply about the Digest and enjoyed nothing more than being asked to write an article for an upcoming edition. His retirement left a gap in our hearts and our lives; the sadness at his passing is only mitigated by the knowledge that he is now at rest and at peace. ..Source.. RSOL Website

Blog Overview

Thanks to folks who have taken the time to forward links to news articles, papers and other research in this blog. Please continue, it is much appreciated.

What is documented here comes from news reports and other credible sources. However with that said, we are sure this is not all there is, only what folks have advised us of.

The purpose of this blog is to document incidents of suicides and other deaths occurring to folks whose lives touch on sex offenses. Included here are folks who have been convicted of sex offenses, and folks who are accused of sex offenses but have no prior record of a sex offense. In addition, there are times when someone, a bystander so to speak, who has no connection to a sex offense or a sex offender, is mistakenly accused of committing a sex crime, they too are included.
If a person is known to be an -Advocate of Sex Offender Issues- then will be assigned a special tag "Advocate of Cause." Advocates of Cause may or may not be a person formerly convicted of any offense, and may or may not have committed suicide.

We retain these stories so other folks can find out what happened to the person should they be looking for them. Over time we have had many requests and this blog answers those questions.

===============================

Article Tags, Topics, Issues Index:
"+" TAGS: Notice that some of the entries have a "+" before them, these are the entries that are educational in nature, or, we are bringing attention to special cases to help Advocates to find these when they speak with Lawmakers. We will post relevant educational material as we find them or are made aware of them. The remaining entries are factual, actual events. All stories are supported by news articles or other reasonable verifiable sources.

Bad / Dead Article Links:
Unfortunately as time goes on some of the Internet links (sources of news articles) will no longer work. This is due to various reasons such as the news site has been rearranged, older articles are removed or archived, etc. There is nothing we can do about this, which is why we try to capture the essence of a story initially, the relevant facts, so folks can still see what happened later on.

YEAR followed by blank, CC: The year follow by no designation means this is a US case. CC means it is a civil commitment case.

Suicide US - of RSOs/SOs: We are no longer keeping track of Foreign suicides, only those in the United States, no matter whether the person was registered (RSO) or not (SO). If someone in the U.S. -has no prior sex offense- and is accused of a sex offense, or believed to have committed a sex offense, their suicide will be flagged "SO."

Accused / Not Accused: By "accused" we mean was the person was accused of a sex crime at the point of death (if a RSO it would mean recidivism, if a SO it would be their first sex crime). The absence of the word "Accused" would put the case in one of the other designations. Accused includes "thought to have committed a sex crime," whether the thinking is the police or others involved in the case. Now, sometimes it is claimed a person committed a sex crime but authorities cannot find any evidence of it, or, the facts of the article does not show real evidence to support the claim, hence, we tag these "... Accused, but innocent." Selecting appropriate tags is difficult and can change when a newer article reveals more or incorrect evidence; we do our best.

w-Death/s of Innocent Others: Occasionally, someone is killed who IS NOT the RSO or the SO accused, we call those deaths "Innocent Others" and we keep track of them as well. Generally it is the RSO or SO accused who kills the Innocent Other, but there are times when someone else (Public Servants, Police) who accidentally cause the death. Those cases, "Innocent Other" deaths, are also recorded in our "Deaths Related to Sex Offenders or Offenses" blog, where we count them.

Article Tags, Topics, Issues Index & Their Meanings:
The most important question we are asked is, how many have committed suicide. If you look at the "Article Tags / Topics / Issues" Index (right side of page) you will see "Suicide -" and "Suicide/s US -" or "Suicide/s FRN -". NOTE: "Suicide -" are facts about the cases documented, while the other two are the actual number of suicides shown in the (##). Individual groupings are (Mathematically important):
  • Suicide/s US - of RSOs (##)
  • Suicide/s US - of RSOs Accused (##)
  • Suicide/s US - of SOs Accused (##)
  • -----------------------------------------
  • -- We do not track Foreign Registries --
