Blog Overview

I must begin by thanking folks who have taken the time to forward all the links to the News articles, Papers, Research and Studys that is now within this blog. Please continue to do so as it can only grow in content if we all find related materials and get them posted.

The purpose of this blog is to document incidents of suicides and other deaths occuring to folks whose lives touch on sex offenses. Yes, it includes folks who have been convicted of sex offenses, and folks who are accused of sex offenses who have no prior records of a sex offense.

Note: Effective 8-1-2008 we are adding to our documentation "Unusual Suicide Attempts" which may signal lawmakers to make other changes to save lives. A review of them will explain why we are doing this.

Note: Effective 8-28-2009 we added a new classification of suicide "Suicide by a Accused but Innocent Person." A very unusual case.

Over time I will develop this Overview and any suggestions are welcomed. Oh yes, as I load all the old articles I have been storing and those sent in, the blog posting dates will not likely agree with the dates of the incidents. That cannot be helped.

Unfortunately as time goes on some of the Internet links will no longer work. This is due to various reasons such as the site is rearranged, older articles are removed, etc.

There is nothing we can do about this which is why we try to capture the essence of a story initially, the relevant facts, so folks can still see what happened.

The word "Accused" means:
Within the subject index you will see the word "accused" and to us that means the person was, or is, accused of a sex crime. Assume a person was a RSO and was accused of a probation violation (Zane Truett Partain) you will note he is coded "Suicide of a RSO" and not "Suicide of Accused RSO." Accordingly, when accused is used it means a sex crime.

"Death/s of Others" -vs- "Deaths - Not Qualified"
"Death/s of Others" means the death of another person which occurred, as part of, or concurrent with, the suicide of the sex offender. Example: A Murder-Suicide case or this extreme case. These folks ARE included in our deaths by year.

"Deaths - Not Qualified" means this is a record of the death of a sex offender who does not meet our criteria for a suicide. We keep track of these deaths (generally natural causes or accident, etc.) NOW because folks check to see if we have a death listed before sending us the link. This enables them to know if we have that offender listed, and how we have classified that offender's death. Also, at times folks just want information on how and when a person died, so we keep these simply for the record. These persons ARE NOT included in out totals of deaths by year.
