Officer commits suicide after admitting molestation
4-1-17 Mississippi:
Tishomingo Police Officer Russ Robinson committed suicide March 24 after admitting to authorities he had molested minors.
His admission came after the Alcorn County Sheriff’s Department, with assistance from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, questioned the 53-year-old officer about allegations he molested a 17-year-old boy after flashing his headlights to get the teen to pull over.
A day after that questioning, Robinson was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside his home in the Crossroads Community near Iuka.
It was not the first time molestation allegations had arisen against Robinson, but it was the first time authorities took action to address them.
Several years earlier, Robinson, a deputy then for Tishomingo County, left his part-time job at Brooks Grocery in Iuka following another such accusation.

A mother's love for a lost son — the sex offender found dead Saturday

11-10-2014 Missouri:
On Nov. 10, 1992, Lewis Green, then 22, shot himself in the head during a game of Russian Roulette.
That left him partially paralyzed on his left side and with mental problems, his mother said.
Twenty-two years and five days later — on Saturday — Green, 44, was one of three people shot to death at a north side Springfield hotel that often is home to transients, as well as families down on their luck.
"I loved my son," said Green's mother, Kaye Green, Tuesday before she went to start making funeral arrangements. "I loved my son in spite of himself."
Kaye Green, 63, a former machine operator who retired from Solo Cup after 24 years, said her son moved to the Economy Inn about five months ago. She said he could afford the payments on his checks from Social Security disability and the motel didn't do background checks on who lived there.
The owner of the motel has not returned repeated phone calls from the News-Leader.
Kaye Green said she doesn't think her son's status as a sex offender had anything to do with his death. Police have not commented on whether they are investigating a possible connection.
"Whoever did that was a coward because he couldn't run," she said. "He was trapped in his own body."

DA: Convicted child molester killed himself right before his sentencing
5-12-16 Pennsylvania:
A convicted child molester apparently killed himself right before he was to appear in Dauphin County Court to be sentenced to a state prison term for sexually abusing a 14-year-girl, a prosecutor said Thursday.
Kevin Marshall, 32, of Gratz, pleaded guilty to multiple sex crimes in February. He had a plea deal for a 3- to 7-year jail term and was scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Scott A. Evans on Wednesday morning.
When Marshall didn't show, and attempts by his lawyer, Public Defender Mary Klatt, to find him failed, Chief Deputy District Attorney Sean McCormack secured a bench warrant be issued for his arrest.
State police at Lykens never had a chance to serve that warrant. McCormack said as he contacted police to bring Marshall to court, the officers were notified that a passerby had found a body near Marshall's home. Indications are that Marshall fatally shot himself, McCormack said.

Third Grade Teacher Commits Suicide Following a Sexual Assault Allegation
10-20-16 Washington DC:
Less than three weeks after being confronted by school officials over a sexual abuse allegation, a DCPS teacher took his own life.
John Domenick Bontempo, a 45-year-old third grade teacher at Neval Thomas Elementary School in Northeast, was in the process of taking on a formal mentoring role with a D.C. youth when the situation turned tragic. The mother of the minor accused him of child sexual abuse, setting off police and school investigations that were underway when Bontempo committed suicide in late August, according to police reports and interviews with a number of investigating agencies.
Karen Douglas, program manager with the National Center for Children and Families, notified the Metropolitan Police Department on Aug. 26 that she had received an emailed suicide threat that morning from Bontempo, who taught writing, social studies, and science.
“Apparently there had been some allegation regarding a young person [Bontempo] had contact with,” says Douglas, who until then had been unaware of the situation. “He didn’t mention specifics, but he was devastated that anyone would think he would have such a relationship given how close he was to the youth and the family. He said goodbye, and that he knew the action he was going to take was going to impact people who cared about him.”

Former Notre Dame professor and alleged sex offender commits suicide
Feb-2016 Texas:
Reverend Virgilio Elizondo, 80, a former Notre Dame Theology professor and accused sex abuser, was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in his San Antonio home on Monday.
In a 1983 lawsuit brought forth by an unidentified San Antonio man, Elizondo and another priest, Rev. Jesus Armando Dominguez, were accused of sexual abuse. The Archdiocese of San Antonio was also named in the lawsuit after failing to bring to light the multiple sexual abuse incidents in their cathedrals.
The accuser originally came to Elizondo for guidance after being sexually abused on multiple occasions by Dominguez. However, instead of providing the man with the proper counsel, Elizondo allegedly fondled and kissed him. Elizondo fervently denied these allegations.
According to Thomas J. Henry, the accuser’s representation in the lawsuit, the next step in the litigation was discovery production and the taking of depositions. This step could have potentially unveiled the truth about what happened over 30 years ago.
Dominguez was found guilty on 58 criminal accounts of sexual abuse and as a result was dismissed from the church, the Los Angeles Times reports.
