The 53-year-old Lewiston man hung himself at the Androscoggin County Jail Saturday with pieces of a ripped bedsheet.
An inmate who hanged himself at the Androscoggin County jail Saturday has been identified as George Magee, 53, of Lewiston. Magee hanged himself with pieces of a bedsheet, authorities say.
Magee had been jailed for violating probation on an unlawful sexual contact and unlawful sexual touching conviction, according to the Lewiston Sun Journal.
Maine Department of Corrections investigators were at the jail yesterday investigating the incident. Maine State Police were also at the jail Saturday, the paper reports.
Magee was under observation, but not because of concerns about suicide. According to the paper, he was being watched because corrections officers suspected he was not taking medication he had been prescribed. ..Source.. by Maine Public Broadcasting
