A man who plunged about 400ft from Beachy Head with his wife, three days before he was due to appear in court on 23 sex charges, was named by police today.
Terry Heley, 51, was listed to appear at Portsmouth Crown Court today on 22 charges of gross indecency with a child, and one charge of rape.
Heley, from Tedburn St Mary, near Exeter, was due before a judge for an in chambers preliminary hearing on the matter.
He was found early on Monday, with his 65-year-old wife Olivia, on a ledge 100ft from the foot of the Sussex cliffs, and their bodies were recovered by coastguards.
A Sussex Police spokesman said today that the deaths were not being treated as suspicious, and an inquest had been opened and adjourned.
Heley had been arrested in Portsmouth on December 20, said a Hampshire police spokesman.
Devon and Cornwall Police were alerted late on Sunday evening by a relative who had concerns for the welfare of the couple.
They contacted Sussex Police, after visiting the couple’s home, and a search was launched at Beachy Head. ..more.. by Chris Court, PA
