OVERLAND PARK, KS (KCTV) - A registered sex offender was found dead this week just hours after he fled from police after being caught half naked with a teen boy.
Scott Preston Moore 46 was found unconscious Monday morning inside an Overland Park home. He was rushed to the hospital where he later died.
Moore has repeatedly been accused of sex crimes in the Kansas City area and Massachusetts.
Autopsy results are pending. Authorities have not said whether Moore took his own life.
Officers went to his family member's home searching for him Monday morning after he had repeatedly fled from officers in both Missouri and Kansas.
Spring Hill police said they came upon Moore with a teen in a parked car on the side of a neighborhood cul-de-sac about 1 a.m. Sunday. Officers say the two were in the back seat of the car. Neither was completely dressed.
The teenage boy got out of the car and told police the man would not let him go.
While officers were talking with him, Moore climbed into the front seat and sped off.
In 2013, Moore was convicted of sexual battery for assaulting a 16-year-old during a sleepover. During his trial, prosecutors said Moore was accused of a similar offense at a commuter train station. Witnesses testified about incidents in 2005 and 2006 during overnight church retreats in Linn County, KS.
Because of his death, Moore was removed from the Kansas sex offender list on Wednesday.
Those who lived near Moore's home in the Willow Bend neighborhood in Overland Park said Moore kept to himself after he was released from jail and would refuse to make eye contact.
"It's a tragedy. It saddens me. I think he obviously struggled with a demon that was horrific," said Kim Hendrix, who lives in the neighborhood. ..Source.. by DeAnn Smith
