GPD: Suspect in fatal stabbing commits suicide in Daytona Beach

1-14-2014 Florida:

A woman was stabbed to death in her car early Monday morning in a parking garage at North Florida Regional Medical Center.

Investigators say the assailant was her estranged husband, a registered sex offender, who later took his own life as police arrived at a location in Daytona Beach.

The woman has been identified as Casey Renee Wilsey, 37, of Bronson. GPD reported receiving a call at 8:58 a.m. in which the caller said a woman was dead in a vehicle parked on the third floor garage near the Women's Center entrance.

GPD officers responded and found Wilsey dead, apparently from a stab wound to her torso.

Based on information from family members, investigators determined the likely suspect was Wilsey's estranged husband, Walker Gage Wilsey Sr., 46. According to Levy County public records, Casey Wilsey had petitioned for an injunction against domestic violence in November and, in December, petitioned for a divorce.

Police said Casey Wilsey was not an employee of the hospital but she worked in the complex. It appears that Walker Wilsey waited for her to arrive at work, then attacked her in the parking garage while she was still inside of her vehicle, police said.

Investigators believe Walker Wilsey fled in a white F-350 diesel pickup truck with a camo-style bottom “wrap.”

GPD investigators asked multiple agencies, including Daytona Beach police, to check possible addresses for Walker Wilsey.

At around 3:30 p.m., a friend found Wilsey on the floor in a back room of a Daytona Beach home, police said. His throat and wrists were slit and two knives were found in the room, police told the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

Earlier Monday, the victim's boyfriend was at the parking garage smoking several cigarettes as he waited for more information. He was hugged by two women in nursing scrubs.

Williston Elementary, Joyce Bullock Elementary and Williston High School in Levy County were under secure campus mode on Monday, according to Levy County Sheriff's Office public information officer Lt. Scott Tummond. The victim's children attend the elementary schools, and GPD asked the Sheriff's Office to check on the well-being of the victim's children, Tummond said.

Laura Tague, 31, a patient at North Florida Regional Medical Center, could not leave the parking garage because her car was near the car that had the victim inside. She had an appointment at 8:30 a.m. and was looking for a parking spot on the third floor, she said.

“I didn't see anything,” she said. “I drove right past the car that she was in looking for a parking spot. Didn't see anyone in the garage at all.”

Terwilliger Elementary School on Northwest 62nd Street, near the hospital, was briefly locked down because of the incident, Tobias said. ..Source.. by Monivette Cordeiro

Murder suspect had checkered past

The man who police say stabbed his estranged wife to death Monday morning in a hospital parking garage before later killing himself was a registered sex offender with a criminal history that includes charges of child rape and domestic violence.

Walker Gage Wilsey Sr. waited for Casey Renee Wilsey, 37, to arrive at work before 9 a.m., then stabbed her in the torso as she sat in a vehicle in the garage at North Florida Regional Medical Center, according to Gainesville Police.

Casey Wilsey, who lived in Bronson and was the mother of four, was a medical assistant who worked in the reception area at Gainesville Pediatrics Association, which is located in the hospital complex.

Walker Wilsey fled and was found Monday afternoon in a Daytona Beach home. His throat and wrists had been slit and two knives were found in the room in what police said was a suicide.

Daytona Beach police spokesman Jimmie Flynt said the home belonged to an acquaintance with whom Wilsey was staying in recent days.

Records show that Walker Wilsey, 46, of Bronson, was convicted of two counts of child rape in 1988 in Athol, Mass., at age 21. Athol is about 40 minutes away from Walker's hometown of Amherst, where according to his Facebook profile page he attended Amherst Regional High School.

Until his name change in 2003 in Alachua County, Walker was known as Gunny Dash Wilsey.

In 2000, he was arrested on charges of misconduct involving weapons in Tucson, Ariz., and later arrested again in 2001 for charges of drug solicitation violation and drug paraphernalia violation, according to Arizona Department of Corrections public records.

In a 1998 article in the Tucson Citizen, a 30-year-old bounty hunter named Gunny Dash Wilsey was arrested after officials said he and another bounty hunter chased and confronted a man who was not connected to the person they were after. Walker spent time in the Arizona State Prison and was released in 2002.

Sometime after his release, Wilsey moved to Florida, where in January 2003 a woman filed for a domestic injunction against him in Levy County.

Later in February of the same year, Wilsey was charged with false imprisonment in Alachua, but the charges were dropped because of insufficient evidence.

In September 2003, Wilsey changed his first and middle name to Walker Gage Wilsey, and a month later, he married Casey Nelson in Alachua County, according to public records.

About nine years later, an older male relative of Walker Wilsey named Daniel Wilsey, of Ocala, filed for a domestic violence injunction against him in May 2012, according to Marion County public records. Two days later, Walker Wilsey petitioned for an injunction against Daniel Wilsey, records show.

Last November, Casey Wilsey filed for a domestic violence injunction against her husband in Levy County. On Dec. 6, Wilsey registered as a sex offender in his temporary home in Homestead.

Five days later, Levy County records show Casey Wilsey filed for a divorce. One month and two days after the divorce filing, she was found dead in the North Florida Regional Medical Center parking garage.

NFRMC Vice President Jeremy Gallman said the hospital has four security officers per shift with a security manager on scene primarily in the day.

These security officers are responsible for the parking garages, the main hospital and the Women's Center, Gallman said.

Gallman added that an attendant is also on site in the morning to screen comings and goings in the garage.

Casey Wilsey's coworkers at Gainesville Pediatric Association are devastated, said Dr. Michael Wyatt, a doctor at Gainesville Pediatrics. Casey Wilsey, an off-and-on 10-year employee, had told her co-workers that she was in the process of divorcing Wilsey and was feeling good about the decision.

"It's been two of the worst days around here," Wyatt said.

In a statement, Gainesville Pediatric Association said Casey was a "loyal, hard-working employee, a loving and devoted mother and a faithful friend to many."

The statement also said Gainesville Pediatrics has established a memorial fund for Casey's three youngest children.

Walker Wilsey's ex-wife, Denise Langlais, said Tuesday that Casey's kids were Casey Wilsey's whole world. The two became friends after Langlais' divorce from Walker.

"All she was trying to do was get out of a bad marriage, and he wouldn't take no for an answer," she said. "Why he felt he had to take her life, I can't imagine." ..Source.. by Monivette Cordeiro

Suspect in Gainesville killing found dead in Daytona Beach

DAYTONA BEACH — A man suspected of stabbing his estranged wife to death Monday morning in Gainesville was found dead hours later in a Daytona Beach home after police say he killed himself.

Walker Wilsey, 46, was found on the floor in a back room at 126 Dundee Road on the beachside, Daytona Beach Police Chief Mike Chitwood said.

His throat and wrists were slit and two knives were found in the room, Chitwood said.

Wilsey was found by friend who called police, Chitwood said.

Wilsey left the Daytona Beach home at 6 a.m., went to Gainesville and came back after the killing, his friends told police.

Chitwood said Daytona Beach police were called by Gainesville police, who said Wilsey’s cellphone was tracked near Loomis Avenue and Ridgewood Avenue.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has Walker Wilsey listed as a sex offender. He was convicted of the rape of two children in 1988, according to FDLE.

The body of Casey Renee Wilsey, 37, was found Monday morning on the third floor of a parking garage at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville. She was not a hospital employee but worked in the complex.

Gainesville police investigators asked multiple agencies, including Daytona Beach police, to check possible addresses for Walker Wilsey, and when Daytona Beach authorities arrived at one of the locations, Wilsey apparently committed suicide about 3:30 p.m.

Earlier Monday, the victim’s current boyfriend was at the parking garage smoking several cigarettes as he waited for more information. He was hugged by two women in nursing scrubs.

As family mourns slain mother of 5, tragedy traced

Shirley Maples wrote a poem in 1993 for a couple whose daughter had died tragically. Over the years, as more of her friends' children died, she adapted the poem for each child, making it specific for the family.

But she never thought she would have to adapt the poem for herself.

On Friday, Maples read her poem at her daughter Casey Renee Wilsey's funeral, only four days after police say Casey, 37, was fatally stabbed in her car at a parking garage of North Florida Regional Medical Center by her estranged husband, Walker Gage Wilsey Sr., 46.

Maples trembled as she read her five-stanza poem to a group of about 70 at the Knauff Funeral Home in Williston.

“Casey was so active and so full of life, but to give her up now cuts deep like a knife,” she read, the paper shaking. “We must go on with our memories intact. The child that God gave us, we must now give back.”

According to Gainesville police, Walker Wilsey waited for Casey Wilsey to arrive at work before 9 a.m. on Monday, then stabbed her in the torso as she sat in a vehicle on the third floor of the parking garage.

Casey, a mother of five who lived in Bronson, was a medical assistant who worked at Gainesville Pediatric Associates, which is located in the hospital complex.

Walker Wilsey fled the area and was found dead Monday afternoon in a Daytona Beach home. His throat and wrists had been slit, and two knives were found in the room in what Daytona Beach police said was a suicide.

Daytona Beach police spokesman Jimmie Flynt said the home at 126 Dundee Road belonged to Paul Salvatore, an acquaintance with whom Walker Wilsey was staying in recent days. ..Continued.. by Monivette Cordeiro

Sincere condolences to the families and especially the children. This man was know as Daniel StJohn when he was a teenager in Amherst Ma. Dash was a nickname. He was sent to live with relatives in Fla when he was 15 for getting into trouble. This is a deeply disturbing story that may have been prevented if all the signs had been taken seriously. I sincerely hope that there is not more to this story ...it seems that there is quite a trail of violence and criminal behavior. Prayers for peace to all who are affected...
