Man killed by Metrolink train in Fullerton identified

8-17-2012 California:

Engineers reported seeing a man step out from behind some bushes before he walked in front of the train, police said.

Authorities said Friday that a man struck by a train Thursday in Fullerton was Keith Froman, 48, of Garden Grove.

An autopsy is scheduled Friday to determine Froman's cause of death.

Authorities about 3:15 p.m. Thursday responded to reports of a westbound Metrolink train hitting a pedestrian near State College Boulevard and Orangethorpe Avenue.

A man was found dead on the tracks that run alongside Valencia Drive, about 100 feet west of State College, Fullerton police Sgt. Jeff Stuart said.

Engineers reported seeing a man step out from behind some bushes before he walked in front of the train, Stuart said, adding that no train employees or riders were injured.

"At this point every indication is that it was an intentional act," Stuart said, adding that the coroner will make the final determination.

According to court records, Froman pleaded guilty in January to misdemeanor annoying or molesting a child under 18 years old. Froman was sentenced to 154 days in jail and three years probation. He was also ordered to register as a sex offender.

In 2008, he pleaded guilty to felony perjury and misdemeanor false information to possess a firearm. He was sentenced to 100 days in jail and three years probation, court records show.

In 2007, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor lewd conduct in public and resisting a peace officer. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and three years probation, court records show.

The death marks the fourth time in a little more than a month that someone has been struck by a train in Orange County.

On July 12, Timothy Dye, 32, of Anaheim was hit by a Burlington Northern & Santa Fe railway train near the Anaheim-Yorba Linda border in what authorities described as an apparent suicide.

On July 15, Sean Moses, 30, of Cypress was lying beside the westbound tracks near the Fullerton train station when a freight-train conductor saw him. Investigators have not determined whether Moses was already dead when that train partially hit him. Autopsy results have not been released pending further investigation and toxicology tests.

On Aug. 6, Hoang Nguyen, 50, of Garden Grove was killed by a Metrolink train near the Orange station, in what authorities also believe to have been a suicide. ..Source.. by DENISSE SALAZAR and SEAN EMERY
