2-22-2012 Mississippi:
The Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department released some information Wednesday about an inmate who died at the prison in Lost Gap.
Officials with the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department say 35-year-old Stuart Brooks, an inmate at East Mississippi Correctional Facility died earlier this week. As an outside agency, LCSO investigates all deaths at the state prison.
Brooks was serving a three year sentence out of Warren County for failure to register as a sex offender.
The prison originally reported the death as a possible suicide, but the sheriff's department is investigating to find out exactly what happened.
"Investigators are currently doing interviews, talking with staff and other inmates at the prison," said Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun. "At this point in time, it is still a death investigation. No final determination has been made. We'll make the results of our investigation available to the public at the appropriate time."
Preliminary reports from an autopsy could not determine the cause of death, but Calhoun says they're still discussing that with the state medical examiner's office. ..Source.. by WTOK.com
