4-9-2009 Texas:GALVESTON — A Houston man scheduled Monday for a court appearance in Harris County on child sex charges was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said.
John Wesley Gray, 39, was found dead at 5:50 p.m. Sunday inside a Galveston hotel in the 5900 block of Seawall Boulevard. Police do not suspect foul play.
Investigating officers found a note presumed to have been written by Gray, Galveston police said.
Gray was to appear in court with his attorney to hear evidence against him.
Gray was charged in Harris County Precinct No. 4 with online solicitation of a minor and indecency with child, a spokeswoman with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office said. The charges stemmed from alleged encounters with a 13-year-old boy, the spokeswoman said.
Gray was also charged with possessing child pornography, in which he was accused of taking pictures with his cell phone, the spokeswoman said.
Once the district attorney’s office receives Gray’s death certificate, the office will drop the charges, the spokeswoman said. ..Source.. by Chris Paschenko / The Daily News
